What is CROP?
- CROP is a community-based, grant program, funded by the Mississippi Department of Mental Health, Bureau of Behavioral Health Services, Division of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Treatment Services, in partnership with the Mississippi Public Health Institute. Our vision is to cultivate a faith-based community where love and support can be felt the most, especially when caring is simply not enough. CROP’s mission is to help faith communities foster recovery for individuals living with substance use disorders and mental illnesses through collaborations, best practices, and education.
What does CROP offer?
- CROP offers church leaders and congregants training on how to effectively work with individuals and families faced with stigma and shame when seeking help with substance use disorders and mental illness by using a proven 5-dimensional model. CROP also serves as a referral source to local behavioral health service providers for individuals seeking treatment.
How can I be involved with CROP?
Join CROP Trainings
Attend one of our partnering churches scheduled trainings to better understand addiction and mental illness challenges and learn tips on how to create a culture of acceptance and support.
Talk About It
Talk openly from the pulpit, in small groups, and at family gatherings about addiction and mental illness. Open dialogues help eliminate the stigma and shame around seeking help.
Host an Addiction and Recovery Workshop
Lead the way in demonstrating love by removing the stigma, educating members about the warning signs of misuse, help with seeking treatment, and provide access to resources for recovery. Invite mental health professionals to be presenters and/or guest speakers.
Make Referrals
Serve as referral source by directing individuals and/or families of loved ones facing the challenges of addiction and mental illness to one of CROP’s partnering churches who will make confidential referrals to behavioral health providers equipped to assess and provide treatment
Are these services free?
- To meet with one of the CROP partnering churches is a free service. Once referrals are made to local behavioral health providers and you meet for an assessment, you may be asked whether or not you have insurance. Do not allow this to deter you from referring someone and/or seeking assistance for yourself.
If I contact you, will our conversation be confidential?
- All contact and the nature of all conversations regarding your visit is confidential.
